Friday Night Ride

2015-06-19-Friday-13

The FNR is easily the most asked after event.  Now that we’ve been answering the question for over a week we’re more than happy to announce the fact that this Friday, July 15th we’ll be back at it.  Seems like we’re swimming constantly with all these monsoon rain storms but this week is looking like it ought to dry out and make for a real good time as we roam the city streets.  Good vibes, good people, good beer. How else would you spend Friday?  You know the drill, leaves at 8 p.m. so show up early! Read more

A Stitch in Time

For any of you out there who have made cycling a regular part of your day you’ve probably noticed something.  Riding daily takes its toll on your clothes.  Pants in particular get chewed up from riding and often time your favorite trousers hold an abbreviated place in your wardrobe.  It’s honestly one of the more frustrating things about being an active cyclist.  You just can’t have nice things.

Around The World

Many people don’t realize it but Chengdu happens to be an important place in the world of bicycle touring.  For many Chinese it’s the starting point for the fabled 318 journey Lhasa.  For a large number of foreigners visiting China, Chengdu is the perfect midway point.  Whether you’re riding the trans-Asia trip from Europe to Australia or just looking to explore the western reaches of China, Chengdu is the place to be. Hare Hunt Ride

A lot of folks work over the weekend. This means that the usual countryside rides and FNR don’t really suit their schedule so well. We’ve had a lot of demand to switch it up and do a ride mid-week so we’ve decided to put on another “chase the rabbit” ride.

The format is basic. Of the available riders, we choose one to act as a leader or “rabbit”. This person’s then responsible to pick a route (or not) and guide people over roughly a 30 to 40 kilometer loop. Faster than the FNR, the pace is brisk but easy enough for most to keep up with.

Curious? Stop by Natooke on Wednesday, July 6 and let’s ride. The best part is that each time we try to pick a new leader so we’re always bound to explore a new part of the city. Get out, exercise and see something new.

Best. Summer. Ever.

Cool Treats, Hot Trike.

20160615-alex-1

Several months ago we made friends with the proprietor at Xian Cao Mi (仙草宓) an awesome chain of shops that make delicious Taiwanese treats. We chatted at length about bikes naturally. He was a big fan some of our previous projects including the beer trike we put together for Lazy Pug last summer. Being a big part of the food and beverage community here in Chengdu, he was hip to a number of other awesome little shops looking to get into vending by trike.  Read more

Enhance Your Ride.

There’s a number of things you can do to improve the experience of riding, but nothing is more effective than setting a goal.  We’re not talking purely in fitness terms, but having a clear idea of what motivates you to ride can hugely impact the way you bring riding your bicycle into your everyday life.
Maybe you want to cycle to work at least 3 days a week.  It could be that you’ve set a goal to ride a certain amount each week.  Or it may just be that you are interested in finding a new place each time you go out and explore the world by bike.  Either way, a goal like any of these is a super practical way to enhance your experience on the road.  It tends to take the mundane feeling out of hopping on the old bicycle and setting out time and time again.

This past week you may have noticed we pulled a prank on our friends. Anymore at the shop we’ve got a million-and-one projects going on, but a big one that’s been on our plates for the past few months was re-doing our old shop sign.  The original had begun to fall to bit sand was looking a bit worse for the wear, so as they say: Out with the old, in with the new!  We set in on it early Friday morning hoping to have it installed along with a few other minor changes in the shop sorted before the Friday Night Ride.  As we began tearing out the old sign, an idea crossed our minds.  “What if this were the last Friday Night Ride, ever?” With a picture of the sign half removed, it had the potential to convince a few folks that hey, maybe it was the last one ever.
