Bike Polo & Tom Goodbye Party
2013/12/08 Sunday 2:00 p.m.
Worker’s Gymnasium West Gate
This Sunday we will have a very special Bike Polo match! Our coach Tom Myers is going to come back to the US and this is our last chance to be coached by him… We are honored to have had Tom as our coach for such a long time. His experience and his passion for this sport have always helped us. We can only thank him for having always supported, helped and cheered us up. Don’t miss the chance to say goodbye to Tom!
This is what Tom wrote for us:
Fear not, Ben Kallend, our aggressive, fearless, fast, and powerful player of the Natooke Green team has agreed to become the new Coach of Natooke Beijing Hardcourt Bike Polo.
Gabriel Gras, known for his ruthless bus-blocking, mallet hooking, goal-keeping, and highly reliable scoring, has agreed to continue as Assistant Coach. He chose to remain in that position because of his packed work schedule.
Yes, you will still be able to learn bike polo from Tom’s proven method that permits you to play in a gentle polo game on the first day you learn. His secret method is being taught to most of the frequent players, but I think we can count on YangYang, Louie, Ben, Gabriel, Ines, Benjamin, Fabian, Jin Zheng, Ian Ma Xiang, and David to be available teachers during polo practices. We also expect guest teacher appearances by Jessica Hafey who might float in, Francisco Carrasco when he returns from Chile, Garth Fasano on the way to another wilderness adventure, Julian de Roos from Berlin, Larry & Jake from Chengdu, Juilen Chol from wherever his was, and Sara Heinrich who blends polo and tricks and games into one event! And German bike ball training from Volker during one of his world tours. And and and — the brilliant player, Joanna Darrington.
Newer players to encourage include the intrepid Yuting Hung who greatly helped us in Fixed Gear Open 5 and became a fixed gear rider this past summer, Dolly Dang who learned to be a great blocker in one instant lesson last week, and Jeremy Bohl who played his first game two weeks ago. Kitty Montague and Alek Derejian have been greatly missed, and I still have red shoes from FGO5 for her (which I will hand to YangYang for safe keeping); I hope they return.
So come to celebrate by playing polo!
If you cannot get to polo, still come to Near By the Tree restaurant in SanLiTun. We will end polo at about 5 pm then go to the restaurant.
