How to | 5 Tips to Beat the Rain
Here in Chengdu it’s been raining a lot lately. Every. Single. Day. Poor weather can put a damper on things, but only if you allow it. One way to make it through a grey day with a sunny smile on your face is to get out and ride. So we’ve compiled a list of pro tips to keep you rolling, rain or shine.
1) Fenders. There are a number of options for all kinds of bikes. It doesn’t always make sense to have them on your bike, but when it’s wet out they’re the first thing you wish you had. That’s why we really dig clip-on fenders like these SKS Raceblades. Got to get somewhere but it’s coming down? Strap them on and go!
2) Waterproof bags. It’s one thing to keep yourself dry. It’s another to keep your things dry. Look into a good waterproof portage. That way you don’t have to worry about getting your computer or your phone wet.
3) Rain gear. Nothing keeps you drier than just wearing waterproof clothing. Have a rain jacket and pants handy. Pick up a pair of galoshes. This way the only way you get wet is when you’re sweating it out on the bike.
4) Prepare for the elements. The most annoying bit about wet weather is that no matter what you do, you still tend to get wet. The easiest way to avoid this is to plan accordingly. Worried you’ll get where you going but with your britches soaked through? Have an extra pair of clothes packed away safe and dry. Even if it’s sunny, check the forecast. If it calls for rain, just take the extra precaution, clip on your fenders and go.
5) Attitude. Let’s face it. Being wet and cold for a duration seems miserable. But nothing makes a warm shower feel so wonderful as having endured a battle with the weather. If it’s wet out, make sure to slap a smile on your face and hit the streets anyway. Some of the most memorable rides are forged in the rain.
